Delegate Information Note

Dear Delegate,

Welcome to the Ease of Doing Business Initiative (EDBI) 2016 organized by the Government of Kenya in collaboration with the World Bank Group. We take this opportunity to thank you for finding time to participate in the conference. 

Below some useful information intended to make your trip and stay in Kenya pleasant and comfortable.

Travel dates

Arrival of international delegates from respective countries: Monday May 2, 2016

Departure from Kenya to respective countries/destinations: Friday May 6, 2016 

There shall be transfer shuttles from Kenyatta International Airport to Safari Park Hotel and vice versa. In case you want private means to tour the city of Nairobi, please inquire with Safari Park Hotel directly. Please find the details below in the key contact persons section of this note.

For our local delegates, please carry a copy of your National Identification card for validation and registration.

Logistics 

For our international delegates travelling from outside Kenya, you are kindly advised to each carry a hard copy of your tickets, passports and yellow fever certificates. 

Valid passports or other official travel documents acceptable to the Government of Kenya are required for all persons wishing to enter Kenya.   

World Bank Group Facilitation

For our delegates travelling from outside Kenya, we are glad to advise that World Bank Group through the respective country programs will meet the following expenses towards facilitating participation: 

  • Airport transfers from the airport to Safari Park Hotel and back;
  • Hotel accommodation at Safari Park Hotel on bed and breakfast basis from May 2- 6, 2016, lunch during the conference from 2-5 May 2016 and dinner from May 2-5, 2016. 
  • Any room service or other expenses will be at the delegates’ cost.

Program 

The program is scheduled to start on Tuesday, May 3, 2016 at 8.30 am at Safari Park Hotel, Jambo Conference Room, up to May 5, 2016 (afternoon), after which all the delegates will be free to depart.

Security

The hotel is very secure to walk about BUT it is strongly advisable to leave all your valuables (jewellery, cameras, large amounts of money, etc) at the hotel in your room safe as you walk around. The hotel offers a taxi service, which you are advised to use after dark. As an added security measure you are required to wear your name tag at all times at the hotel.

Weather

Please note that it will be a rainy season but some days may be partly sunny, you may carry some warm clothing.

Upon arrival your registration details will be validated at the EDBI conference welcome and registration desk at Safari Park Hotel and you will be issued with a conference badge and delegates package with more information regarding the conference and your stay in Nairobi.

Computer / Equipment Information 

Wireless Internet will be available at the Safari Park Hotel, free of charge. The hotel also offers printing and copying facilities at a cost. 

Kenya uses the type G electric plug/socket that has three rectangular pins. Voltage is 220V, 50 Hz (cycles).

Emergency & Medical Services

A certificate of yellow fever vaccination is required for our international delegates travelling from outside Kenya. 

Visitors should take malaria precautions. 

It is advisable to drink bottled water rather than tap water. 

Medical assistance will be available round the clock at the conference venue. 

A standby ambulance will be provided at Safari Park Hotel from May 2 - 5, 2016. 

Currency

The Kenya shilling is the official currency of Kenya symbolized by “KES” or “Kshs”. There are 6 different shilling denomination coins and 4 different shilling denomination notes in circulation. Coins are denominated in 1, 5, 10, 20 and 40 shilling coins. Notes are denominated in 50, 100, 200, 500 and 1000 shilling notes, which vary in color.

One can exchange US Dollars for Kenya Shillings at any and all retail banks, foreign-exchange bureaus at the airport and major hotels.
